I looked into Hi-vis for our warehouse operatives. I was offered the option of having Hi-vis strips put onto the standard type of overalls they already wore by a hire/laundry supplier. Speak to your supplier, they may be able to do something similar with the lab coats.

I have just been talking to my good lady who worked in a food lab until recently and she wondered why the staff didn't take off the lab coats when they left the lab. Surely to avoid cross contamination (in both directions) the lab coats should stay in or just outside the lab, and the staff can then pick up a hi vi as they enter the warehouse ????

I have just spoken again to my resident expert (the wife) and she says that the junction between the food preparation area and the warehouse is a Critical Control Point under HACCP and therefore the person leaving the food preparation area should take off the lab coat and put on the hi vis, and then the opposite when returning to the food preparation area.

Again the purpose is to prevent contamination from pallets, outer wrappings, etc etc.

The HACCP audit is as important as the H&S audit in this instance but both can be accommodated.
