Posted By Neil Cormack I would be grateful for any help or advice on what other companies / people use when assessing emergency procedures for fall arrest equipment when working on roofs, tanks and scaffolds. I have also been asked to produce a safety in roofwork course for a toolbox talk, any help would be appreciated. cormackassociates@btinternet.com

Posted By Chris Pope re tool box talk As well as keeping an eye on this site which produces so much useful brain fillers, its also worth keeping an eye on a page called Whats new on the HSE website. On the roofwork subject a few months ago there was announced a WAHR briefing for the construction industry and just a few weeks ago a whole powerpoint presentation with pictures on for you to use on the use of ladders & steps.

Posted By Frank Hallett Hi Neil In essense, your emergency procedure should be capable of retrieving the endangered personnel to a "place of safety" within an acceptable period of time. You decide what's acceptable - and it's not based upon achievable - and be prepared to defend it against hostile enforcement perceptions. For persons who are likely to be suspended in a harness following the arrest of a fall, the current guidance is based upon a couple of extremely well written HSE funded research papers and is recommended as a maximum of 15 minutes before they cease to be suspended. If you need any more situation specific info, feel free to ask. Frank Hallett
