However, if you were to use it for a professional document such as this, the people reading it in the language that you translated it into would be too busy laughing to take the policy/ document/ form seriously!

Posted By Dave Daniel I wrote Rover Group's COSHH database in MS Access back in 1993 when they had 14,000 substances and 50,000 employees. It relied heavily on using standard phrases to construct an in-house assessment sheet. When BMW took over we found that whereas the Rover system was being run by me as a part-time consultant, operator (guy off the track whose health was too poor to work on assembly) and an Occ. Hygienist 1 day per month for the 20 or so new products, BMW had a full time team of 2-3 and dedicated IT support for a system which gave less useful point of use info. Such is life. I used translation software to edit the list of phrases, copied them back into the database and lo and behold, the 14,000 assessments could be printed out in "German". It took about 4 hours. BMW didn't like it as it showed them up a bit! Our operator was half-German and noted that some of the translations needed amendment (return to supplier came out as refund etc.) but was otherwise impressed. Another half hour manually editing the phrases would have sorted this out I suspect. If you have a large need to do this there are ways to automate the process....
