Posted By stevehaigh Whilst I understand that there is a requirement to have a water fire extinguisher every 200 sqm, does this apply if there is a sprinkler system in place. Also if required, can alternative extinguishers which deal with class A fires be installed instead eg powder. Thus removing the need to purchase multiple extinguishers

Posted By Frank Hallett Hi Steve The bottom line is that there is no specific legislative minima for the provision of any type of fire ext other than may be prescribed in a Fire Cert. You should be including the provision of fire extinguishers in your FRA so that you provide the appropriate number, type and size for the risk in your workplace. Frank Hallett

Posted By Ken Taylor I wouldn't rely only on sprinklers as there will be times when the system will be out of action for service, maintenance, repair, etc so some portable extinguishers would be useful to have available. As to alternative types, a competent person will need to consider what is most appropriate for the circumstance of use. All extinguishers have their limitations including dry powder.
