Posted By Christopher COLIN Barber Does anyone know of any official guidance on the intended period a scaffold is to be in place before scaffold stairs should be considered. I have twelve weeks in my head but dont know where I got it from? Your input would be appreciated.

Posted By Robert K Lewis Colin There are no fixed times or requirements. I cannot get my head round those who persist in the use of ladders at all. Even scaffolders seem to want to use some outrageous ladders rather than build the stairtower at the same time! If you are being pushed into making a definitive statement I would go for an hour as a starter and go downwards in duration of use as others push to go up, they soon learn! The HSE target/priority cards in 2003-04 placed this as a priority and it has not drawn back as far as I understand them from my own private conversations. Bob
