Legal requirement to translate H&S Policy, details of H&S Law Poster for non english speaking employ

Does anyone know if there a legal requirement to translate your health and safety policy and H&S Law poster contents for foreign employees who do not speak english. Would a tool box talk from an existing foreign worker suffice? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know if there is a legal need but from previous experience where we had a large number of non-english speaking employees we were informed that an accident was an accident, an injury an injury and they did not appreciate that they could not happen to a non-english speaking person!
We had signs made in Polish (back in post-war years) and still adopt that technique today although many other languages are now required.
Use the basic information and a translation programme (so much easier today). Also approach agencies, embassies etc they may be able to assist with posters already made in appropriate languages at lower cost that re-invent the wheel.

David the guidance to regulation 10 of the management at Work Regulations (Information for employees)states that any information provided should be appropriate for training, experience and language, and for those that have little or know understanding of English you may need to make special arrangements. As for the Law Poster the HSE already do the alternate leaflet in a number of languages which can be downloaded or ordered from HSE books. Hope this helps.

Another possibility is to cut & paste your documentation through one of the internet translating sites such as Babel Fish.
However this can produce some interesting anomalies such as the recent thread by Lourdes, where "environment" was translated as "ambient". So it's always good to check your translation with a linguist.
