Posted By alan brotherton I wonder if anyone can help regarding the following question ; Other than physical examination are there any actual tests which leads could be subjected to? If so what would be the procedure and will PAT test meters provide this function?
Thank you in advance Alan

Posted By Nigel Singleton BSc It is possible to test earth bond by using an appliance plugged into the end of the extension and switched on, however you need to do a bit of calculation to arrive at a figure. You would need to subtract the earth bond of the appliance from your overall reading and also allow for the nominal resistance of the cable given its length. This will also depend on the thickness and lebgth of the cable. There is a chart in the IEEE guide which explains about nominal resistance. If you need more info let me know.

Posted By Cr8r Going off the point a bit but this reminds me of a maintenance guy a few years ago filled out a form as follows:
Description: Extension Lead.
Work Done: Replaced plug. Replaced lead. Replaced socket.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I swear this is true! The extension lead got to retain it's original item number! I tried to point out that it's like the old gag about the broom - best broom I ever had. I've had this broom 20 years and it's still going strong. I've only replaced the stick eight times and the brush fourteen times! He didn't get this either!
