Hello forum readers!
Can anyone help? Looking for guidance/best practice on min/max lux levels for a library environment or indeed any info on lighting in general for this type of environment. Anyone know where to look?
Think I will regret that last sentence.
Had thought of advising users to up their carrot intake.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Dazmo

Your reference contains lots of info but the units are archaic (foot candles and foot lamberts); anyone know the conversion factors?

Hi Gilly,
Thanks for response. Interesting articles. Haven't used emerald since I was at university!
Paul, this is rather a strange website but I think it explains the basics.

The relevant standards are contained in CIBSE Code for Interior Lighting 1994 Edn p76.
The general standard for illumination in a library is 300-500 Lux on the working plane.

Hi Paul,
The units aren't archaic - just american and I did put in a warning about that.
I, on the other hand, am archaic and a librarian to boot!

Hi Paul,
Converter at
http://www.intl-light.co...culators/footcandle_conv
As Gilly says not archaic but Americans sticking to tradition. We have an onshore drilling site where the US influence on petrochem means that even the Norwegians express drill diameters in inches, even if the depth of drilling is measured in metres!!
Regards, Peter
