Posted By Jason Hough Hello, I work as a maintenance engineer for a steelstockholders, this involves working at height on overhead cranes etc.. mainly using a genie. We have all the PPE, harnesses, helmets etc... I'm also actively involved with the health and safety on site. Im after advice on an emergency plan for working at height, specifically advice on rescue if a fall from height was to occur. We have a plan in place but I feel it needs to be more thorough. If any one else works at height do they have a method of attracting somebodies attention if a fall occurs? Any advice greatfully recieved

Posted By Danny Swygart You will need to consider that in the event of a fall you may be knocked unconcious and unable to attract attention. Suitable and sufficient levels of supervision would probably be required.

Posted By john houlihan try looking up on the internet `spandeck or `gotcha --rescue systems. These are rescue systems used in the scaffold industry. Retractable, winch type inertia reels are on the market also.

Posted By Joe Molloy Jason get a copy of SG4:05, this contains some good guidance for working at height and "Rescue" page 34. As well as many other legal aspects of safe working at height including the hierachy of control which you must apply to the working at height activity!
