Posted By Richie Can anyone point me in the right direction of a COP / BS / RIBA / RICS (etc.) document to which I could refer regarding denial of access to pylons or towers? I have at the moment some towers being erected which if climbed could result from a serious fall from height resulting in a death or serious injury. They are not within the confines of my site and I want to get the job right. Rather than go down the road of undertaking a risk assessment from scratch for this aspect, (which would probably be exceed my abilities anyhow), I feel there must be a defined standard to follow. Have looked, have trawled, cant find anything! Any ideas? Richie

Posted By Alison WR Have you tried NTL or Castle Communications [think they still do it] - they have transmitter masts and towers all over the country.

Posted By George Wedgwood Contact one of the Tececoms & Media SG Members (see SG website) and pose the question to them - I am sure someone will help you. When working in the electricity supply industry, I was sfamiliar with climbing prevention in the form of barbed wire around the legs at about 3m up and a good ladder or MEWP was required to even get onto the tower. If smaller and fitted with a ladder and hoops, the standard prevention fitting is a solid board close-fitted to the ladder and locked in place so it cannot be climbed. That is a reasonable prevention method without going over the top - include notices of course!

Posted By Richie Many thanks for the replies. I have seen the practical measures set in place, however I am still unsure regarding model standards. Shall keep trawling. Richie
