Hi Ann,
I had the unfortunate experience of tending to a young nephew last year who had been poisoned by a Christmas Rose. After looking into this a little deeper, i was shocked to find how many hazardous plants we place in our home over the holiday period. I'm not suggesting we all say "BAH HUMBUG" merely that careful placement and education about these plants would make a good article.
e.g Christmas plants that are poisonous:
Dieffenbachia ---- all parts of this plant can make you extremely sick
Jerusalem Cherry ---- all parts of this plant can make you extremely sick
Mistletoe---- the berries of this plant can make you extremely sick
Poinsettia ---- the sap of this plant can make you extremely sick
Oleander ---- the leaves, twigs and flowers of this plant can make you extremely sick

Back injuries from bending down to load/retrieve ostrich sized turkey from oven.
Falls from heights when fixing decorations (especially now that so many people have outside lights etc).
Cuts to feet from treading on plastic toys on the floor which have broken or subsequently break.
Electricity (although of course under Section P of Building Regs, no one is doing their outside wiring themselves anymore?!!).
Excess alcohol.
Fire - from table decorations and / or mantle peice decorations.
But most of all:
S T R E S S ! ! !

Fire from overly decorated candle holders.
Christmas Tree fires from malfunctioning fairy lights.
Food poisoning from undercooked turkey.
Slips from icy/snowy conditions.
Punch ups in the pre xmas sales rush.
Alcohol induced accidents.
....can't wait.

Broke my finger trying to get a frozen turkey out of the freezer at the local supermarket - to heavy and cold to get a good grip on it and it slipped back into the freezer compartment and foolishly i tried to hang on to it.....

Not seasonal as such, but it caused me to giggle when I saw this article on the Safetynews website:
Balloon inflation explosion in Austrian workshop 16.10.05
3 workers were injured in an explosion yesterday morning in a metalworking shop in Schwoich, near Kufstein in the Austrian Tyrol, they had begun to inflate balloons with a mix of oxygen and acetylene for a local wedding, however an electric static discharge provided the energy to trigger an explosion which blew out the windows and doors, all 3 were hospitalised in Kufstein, one with eye injuries.
Almost worthy of a Darwin Award!
