Posted By renown Went for an interview the other day and was told that one of my roles as safety manager would be looking into disposal of waste raw meat and waste pastry (they make pies as you may have guessed) Has anyone got any experience in this area that could help me clinch the role at the second interview? Many thanks Renown

Posted By Bill Elliott Assuming it is still "fit" - how about recycling it to the pet food trade. A search on the internet will give you potential companies dealing in this market.

Posted By Lynne Ratcliffe Regards suggestion of try pig farm practices like this were banned some years ago, and it is believed that it was practise like this that led to the foot and mouth outbreak. Accordingly, there are very strict procedures laid down with MAFF and EA or now DEFRA that cover the disposal of animal products as approvied by EU, HM Gov etc. There are various plants in UK that 'render' animal products that have been set up since the foot and mouth outbreak. Another option is incineration at approved incineration plants. Hope this helps

Posted By Mick Mann Try www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/by-prods/default.htm for a fairly comprehensive run through regulatory requirements
