You need confined space training to do what you propose.
My advice is don't go in there without training as it sounds from your description as if entry without training would be illegal.

I strongly agree with chris. The scare stories about multiple deaths of untrained people in confined spaces are not just stories. (see "Darwin Awards")
And the training is not just for you : it includes the person outside who is looking after you AND the manager/supervisor responsible for authorising the entry.
CSE is too big and important a subject to go into on a sunday morning, even if it is pouring with rain outside. Just don't even think about it. Please

Couldn't agree with them more. You need to be trained in the use of gas monitoring equipment, breathing apparatus and self rescue. The top man will need to be trained, if the client insists you may even need a rescue squad on hand for any emergencies.
Most confined spaces training courses will teach you about self rescue.
Get hold of the ACoP 'Safe work in confined spaces'.

Thank you all ,still looking for some guidelines , the consultants ,trainers whom I know and who available on my locatlity are not that competent ,all they teach is PTW and some general lessons which I know since I have completed My NEBOSH General certificate .I have contacted MR.Philip(www.confinedspace.com) for training .Lemme see how it gonna work out...
