How is everyone experiencing life with the Working at Height Regulations. I agree with the concept but everyone seems to be interpreting the regulations differently. On one particular site we have been asked by the client to remove the access equipment only to be later told it is acceptable then to be asked to remove it again only for it to be allowed back on site. It seems that people are confused by the regulations and with stories of the HSE all over construction sites handing out prohibition notices they are becoming fearful by having a blanket ban of various access equipment such as platform and podium stepladders even when though they comply with the regulations. Be warned and remember that stepladders are not banned (as long as you can justify there use).

Ian,
I personally am not experiencing problems with the new WAHR, they are all down to risk assessment (as they should have been in the past) as long as you can prove the use of equipment by RA then you should not experience any problems, I much prefer the use of podium steps or personal MEWP's to stepladders.

On the subject of prohibition notices i am currently on a job in manchester and recently one of the subcontractors was issued with one for failing to use work restraint equipment in the correct way, the lifelines were too slack and a fall off the edge of the building was possible so it was justified, one other point it seems some main contractors are not getting to grips with the new regs because on the same site a flyer has been produced telling us that stepladders are being 'banned'
