Now even Terry Wogan is on the health and safety band wagon, this morning he stated that if Guy Faukes had been blowing up the Houses of Parliament today he would have needed mechanical assistance to move the gun powder to comply with the manhan regs and would have to submit a COSHH data sheet on the powder. Who is going to be the next to have a go at the profession, although I must say that Terrys comments were slightly more tongue in cheek than normal.

Surely the DSEAR would be more applicable in this instance?
On a related note, did anyone see the recreation of the plot on ITV1 yesterday?
Very entertaining programme, but and extremely sobering demonstration on the effects of a major explosion.

I count it as a very big plus for the profession that even Terry Wogan (or at least his script writers) know something about when a COSHH sheet is required.
Mind you, if GF had succeeded maybe the common market and EU safety legislation would never have happened.
Would that be a good or a bad thing ?

It was great to see 36 barrels (1 tonne) of black powder go up even if it was only pretend politicians that went with it.
As for Terry, he was right (subject to GF being at work) which as Merv said is a big step forward from some of the people I have worked for.
As GF was trying to align England with the Catholic Church, it is likely that we would have been even closer to Europe than we are. So, more rules, but far less likely to have to follow them.
