Hi All,
We have a new peice of equipment using 6 axis robots, the guarding to access the equipment use trapped key for access. On "line 1" there is a pressure pad inside the equipment covering the area you can step into. On "line 2" a question was raised about the need for the pressure pad; I've assessed the equipment and I cannot see the need for the additional pressure pad. The only way for you to start the machine is for another person to take the removed key off you, then shut you and start up the equipment.
So, my question is: Does anyone know of a reg that I am missing stating about 6 axis robots/ trapped key and must have additional protection?.
In my assessment, I see no need for this additional precaution, but I don't want to fall foul of a reg that I am unaware of.

I think I can confidently say that there isn’t a specific regulation that requires pressure pads or any other electrosensitve protection as a back-up for a trapped key system.
I would contact the manufacturer and talk to them as to why they found it necessary to fit it.

Would agree with the previous response. Having said that, there's just about, almost, nearly a risk that during maintenance, someone may be inside while someone else is outside with the key. Even smaller possibility someone would be just dumb ehough to turn it on. Might want to consider a manual shut down switch inside just in case?

Depends why you want to enter and what the keys actually isolate - control circuit or mains power. If you are using a trapped key system, then you would remove key1 that isolates mains power of machine and use this key to release the trapped key2 to allow entry. The machine should be isolated by key1 which cannot be used whilst the man inside the enclosure has key2 on his person.
You would of course have a Safe System of Work which should be strictly adhered to. I would assume the pressure mat would only affect the electrical control circuits, so wouldn't be effective isolation. Again depends what you enter for.
There is guidance available for such situations and machines, but not sure who produces it.
