Iam working as a Joiner/Plumber for a maintenance company. I hold the NEBOSH gen cert.Iam 25 yo. Is there a common problem out there, that when you mention a new system people become experts in Health and Safety and tell you how you should of done things. Iam not saying for one minute its my way or nothing as Iam not that type. The problem this time is the Fire Register. The Office is split between two floors, So I have made two registers. In order of seniority.I have been through the role of the Warden with eveybody. The sheet it self is just a tick IN/OUT with a Return time. That in my view is what we need. And what I recommend we use. Suppose what Iam looking for is how best to listen to people point of view but to draw a line under things at the same time.So just hoping somebody out there Can relate to the problem

A useful technique an old boss taught me is to work out your solution to the problem, argue the case with yourself to prove it works. Consult generally and listen carefully to other peoples opinion. Then by reasoned argument bring them round to your solution, almost as if they have thought it up themselves. It takes a little practice, but it does work and folk feel they have been consulted and rarely in my experience complain. Preparation is the key, just don't argue with yourself in public!
p.s. also works with parents of young footballers if you are the coach, but thats a different story.
