I have an employee who has a letter from her physio to say that sitting on a gym ball at her desk would be his recommendation for her particular condition, (bad back), instead of one of our standard DSE ACOP compatible chairs.

I am concerned that this ball would render me non compliant with DSE regs.

All things aside the managers don't like the idea of it, never mind the reality of everyone sitting on gym balls!

Is this OK, has anyone seen this before.

The physio balls are available as a height alterable chair with a bit of a back rest - and quite cheap. Google "pallone II". The actual balls are a bit of a liability in an office, because they get underfoot [but can be useful for use at home].

The ball chair is good for getting people in touch with their back muscles, and strengthening their backs. I'd be grateful for, rather than concerned about the recommendation. The chair is tiring, so users will either need to be up and about a lot, or swapping between the back chair and a conventional one.
