I bet many of you health and safety bods, like me, have had environmental issues thrust upon you as well.
For those of you that have, do you know of any web sites where I could join a chat forum, such as this one, but for environmental issues.
I have tried a few sites but cannot find one.
Thanks in advance for any pointers.
Regards

Yes it would be nice.
I know very little about Env stuff, but I have been lumbered with it.
Am I competent to undertake this role. NO.
I have some very stupid questions to ask, but need to know the answers, such as, is there an incident reporting system such as the RIDDOR one, as I need to encorporate some kind of advice into our system.
PS I am trying to get on a course and to join one of the associations, but the Company has limited resources.

Certainly environmental accidents need to be reported. Depending on the size, material released and environment released into. Would then go to Environment agency, local water board etc...
I would recomend IOSH diploma in Env Management a very good starting point.

The Environmental Specialist Group were discussing this very item at our committee meeting yesterday as a means of providing an additional service to our members; so this thread is very timely.
We are principally there to support the H&S practitioners who have been "invited to" take on environment as well and look very much to the practical ways that we help our companies, utilising wherever possible the skills we have as H&S professionals.
Environmental topics have been discussed in the past on this forum; albeit infrequently and our committee would be delighted to assist whenever possible.
You can of course direct a specific query to Tech Affairs - who may well call on the ESG to help.
I don't know of any other forum as lively as this for the environment.
If there is enough demand then we can begin to make a case to open a specific forum.

Good afternoon one and all
Darby
What do you suggest is the best way of demonstrating this demand? Survey or just post the request for information when it is necessary?

Sometimes lost on Environmental stuff and feel let down by the ISO14001 system

Good Afternoon,
I too think that a forum for Environmental questions would be a good idea as I am sure there are more than a few practitioners out there who have had the environment thrust upon them.

Guys... have a look at the IEMA website...there is some good info there and if you join as an associate(you have to do an open book exam for this) you also have access to good info.
The IOSH enviro course are excellent as well and I wil reccommend them.
I will definately support the idea of an environmental forum alongside the existing IOSH forums!!

Yes, will be a good thing.
Any resposes from environmental enforcers out there?
We share our safety, so why not environ concerns?

Hello all,
Agree with the comments about IEMA, i did the open book examination through CHSS and would highly recommend the course. Just a point about the IOSH diploma, i'm not positive on this but when i did the open book, the diploma was not recognised as a suitable qualification for associate menbership. IEMA also now have chartered status membership and this is something well worth considering if you wear two hats like me.

Are you sure about IEMA and chartered status? I know that it was mooted but is not mentioned on their web or elsewhere.

Yep. 100% sure about Chartered Status (CEnv). Have the November edition of The Environmentalist right here on my desk. Tewnty- seven members awarded chartered status in the past month. Also a fast track scheme available.

Hi
I'm also a H&S bod who has responsibilities for the ISO14001 system.
Not promising anything - but if any of you have any queries or "daft Questions" i'd be happy to try and help! No promises though!
I'm also an affliate member of IEMA - and at this level I didn't have to take any assessments, but i get access on the website and the monthly mag!
Thanks
Jo
