Evening,

Was wondering if there were any easily
available accident stats backing up
the dislike for the use of heavy
duty alloy painters trestles as
step ladders?

why ?

I don't know anyone who uses them - presume you mean the type that used to be allowed up to fourteen feet and on which you used to be able to fit one 18 inch wide Youngman staging.

I would stick with the simple fact that the rung spacing and diameter of the rung are greater than the rungs of a standard ladder. We are psychologically attuned to a ladder and thus know where the next rung is and what it feels like to our foot.

The frame climbing style of alloy tower was modified to overcome this very problem.
