Anyone know where to find an upto date 'user friendly' H&S Register of legislation, or failing that does anyone know of companies who offer a service to establish and maintain registers on your behalf. Obviously once you have given them a 'risk profile' for your company
Cheers
Paul

Thanks Guys
Neil the link you have sent....does anyone update that...would you know?
The OPSI website is not user friendly! and it is very late in the day....I'll have a look in the morning.
Ideally I'm after a list that someone else will update and I can use to link into it for OHSAS 18001 reasons. Much as I would like to manage a list there are not enough hours in the day.

If you are looking for this in respect of OHSAS 18001 you may be missing the point - what you need to establish under 18001 is that legislation which is relevant to your activities not just a list of all legislation.
If you are going to use this list to then identify those that are relevant you would also need (in principle if not in practice, as you may already know) to know the content of the legislation to cross reference.
Personally we use one of the many providers of on-line health and safety documentation to assist us in this respect (by having access to their listings) together with our general awareness of what is happpening from sources such as the HSE, SHP, IOSH etc.

Thanks David
I don't think my initial question was missing the point. A list would do as a start I am aware of the fact that we would then need to align the business activities with the applicable legislation but with 300 locations 26000 staff and activities ranging from Construction Management, Printing services, call centres, lone workers, home workers, Document Scanning, Document Services, Local Government also sites in Ireland, India etc etc and two people in our SH&E Team!
Hence my point about companies who could offer that type of service
I am after an easier life!!
Thanks anyway
P

I spy an opportunity for an enterprising Law Firm . . . !
Any of you litigators out there looking for another way to tell us what we can find out for ourselves and charge us a fortune for it?

Paul,
there is a company here in ireland called TMS consultancy ltd, who offer an internet based system and they will also (for a fee) relate it to your business as necessitated by ohsas 18001. i am not certain that as they have the structure in place they may well undertake this role for a UK company too. you can contact them on info@tmsconsultancy.com or telephone +353 61 464 666 they have undertaken this work for a number of pharmaceutical companies that have uk operations.
hope this is of assistance. They do take the fun out of the job though!!!

Have You got the BSI document; 'Managing Safety the Systems Way'
http://www.bsi-global.co...th/Coming/bip2050.xalter
I don't have the uptodate version yet, but the one I have, has a list of current H&S legislation - so it may be worth getting a copy. It's useful to have this document anyway if you are going down the OHSAS 18001 route.

Here's another suggestion;
I subscribe to "Tips & Advice Health & Safety" This is a simple plain English publication that I much prefer to SHP and other H&S journals because it's punchy, brief and gets to the point. Although sometimes, I question its tone which tries to build bridges with Managers/Directors who may be cynical of H&S.
Anyway, earlier this year they produced a publication listing all the H&S legislative changes for 2004/2005. I think it cost me about £20. Here is the link;
http://www.indicator.com...&p=/uk/health/recent.htm
I hope they will repeat this every year.

I keep my Company updated through a subscription to the Barbour "Safety Health and Environment Briefing" by Barbour Index, which is emailed every week. It contains a list of all safety, health and environmental legislation even loosely connected with our profession and I find it a concise and useful summary of the week's commentary on HS&E issues.
Have a look at a sample copy at;

Paul, I offer a legal register update service for ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, for a number of medium and large organisations.
I'm ex-RoSPA & EEF, and provide clients with a monthly or quarterly register update for £450 per year.
If you want more details, I'd be glad to help.

Paul.
For our 18001 stystem I have a simple list which notes the main legislation which is relevant to each operational area of the company. This is posted on the company intranet with links to HSE, HMSO, Envirowise and other usefull sites. In this way we demonstrate that we have considered the legislation relevant to our activities and that we have made available to our managers the ability to access further information if they need it. This system has passed certification audits for both 18001 and 14001.
