Hi All
I work for a local authority and I am currently updating the generic risk assessments for customer counter based activities including personal interview rooms which could involve potential violence and aggression towards staff. Any advice or indeed model risk assessments anyone has would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Two pieces of advice. Don't do generic risk assessments. There have been prosecutions (the most recent being one involving Somerfield) where the judge has been very scathing about the use of generics. The dangers with them are that they may not apply to the local situation (which was the case with the Somerfield one) and they do not lead to ownership or involvement by the local workforce. At the most, you could issue assessment records with a list of hazards, but train local workers to analyse the situation themselves and give them guidance on solutions.
The other piece of advice is go to one of Suzy Lamplugh Trust's conferences or day workshops on personal safety. They really are good, and they will happily talk about common pitfalls in, for example, interview rooms (like the one which had a key pad entry system...on the inside),
