Posted By Richard Webber Daniel, Quantity surveyors are employed by contractors (main and sub) and are involved from the beginning of the tendering process (at least on traditional build projects) right through to the final spit and polish. They assess the physical requirements of a site, including materials, labour, equipment etc. and often make decisions regarding the procurement of one sub-contractor/access tower/waste contractor over another. It is therefore very important that Quantity surveyors are trained in Construction safety to the same standard as the Site Manager. Richard

Posted By Mal Shiels Daniel, the document you need to get a hold of is the RIBA Plan of Work, this will give you a good idea of the design and construction process from client brife through to handover. It includes the role of the quantity surveyor in the procees. If you struggle to get a copy , come back to me and i should be able to sort you one out. Regards

Posted By Ken Taylor As the client for large construction projects, we engage a QS at an early stage as part of the client team for involvement with planning, specification, monitoring, invoice approval, defect and snagging issues, etc.

Posted By Robert K Lewis The site team will tell you that their role is "as small as possible " as long as they pay the accounts or at least certify them. Bob
