Posted By warderic My company is about to take on a new manufacturing project that requires the use of nail guns. I have obviously decided that some form of eye protection is needed. Unfortunately, there seems to be no eye protection available specifically for this type of hazard. Most supplier PPE catalogues do state a grade (A) as being the most suitable for impact but none seem to stock them and attemp to sell grade (B) instead. Can anyone help clarify the siutuation. I would particularly like to hear from othere who use nail guns in a manufacturing environment. Eric

Posted By Merv Newman Can't help you on the eye protection part, except for saying - if you go that way surrounding workers will need the same protection. However there are "safe" nail guns which will only discharge when in hard contact with a surface. And that need re-arming for each shot. You can't just hold the trigger down and "bump fire" by banging down the nose repeatedly. Did once see someone carted off in an ambulance. His mate had been using the bump-fire technique. Guess who he "bumped" into. And even the "safe" guns will fire straight through thin materials.

Posted By Ron Hunter If you are in the manufacturing business, have you given proper consideration to mechanising this process and providing adequate guards and barriers? There will be potential Hand-arm vibration issues associated with constant use of nail guns in a manufacturing environment, as well as the obvious 'PPE as a last resort' conflict?
