Posted By Paul Phillips If you look at the NEBOSH website, www.nebosh.org.uk you will see that centres are currently being accredited. You could try the Fire Service College at Moreton Le-Marsh if you are looking for fire training. Hope this helps

Posted By Max Bancroft In some large organisations we will have specialist Fire Safety Officers but in smaller ones the boss is going to look at his Chartered/Technician Member of IOSH to advise how to comply with the new law on fire safety. It may be that the advice will be to hire external consultants but somebody knowledgeable will have to interact with them and then turn their recommendations into practice.
This knowledgeable person will undoubtedly be the CMISOH or Tech IOSH who I think should undertake this Certificate.
If the advice is that the assessments etc called for by the new law (building on the ones already carried out under the Workplace Regs) should be undertaken in-house by the H&S Officer/Adviser then I would hope that this new Certificate will show the required level of competence for relatively straightforward workplaces - and will enable the H&S Officer to decide that the workplace is not relatively straightforward and someone more expert is needed.
Pity that we will have to show that we undertsand H&S Law, culture etc which, if you are C/MIOSH, should be taken as read.

Posted By Descarte Does anyone know when the "FIRE (SCOTLAND) ACT 2005" will be due to come in, I know it is only during its consultative phase at the moment but normally these things have a scheduel for implementation don't they? I can't find it on the SE site or in the literature.
Would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Descarte

Posted By Max Bancroft The Scottish Exec have started publishing draft fire safety guides - one is available via http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Consultations/TopPick2 and it states that the new regime will come into effect on Oct 2006 at the earliest.
