Hi, I am looking for a relevant British standard or guidance note for planning of accesses and egresses on roof work for residential developments. I have the basics of WAH regs and Working on roofs IND(G)284.

If anyone knows of any further info, it would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Roy

Hi Roy

CIRIA produced and excellent document in 2003 called 'Safe Access for Maintenance and Repair'

If you go to their website there are links to their publication section.

Regards

Mal

Hi Roy,

Have you looked at HSG 33 - this was developed in conjunction with a firm called Safesite Ltd. who are specialists in safety at height, their website is fairly informative.
There are however many of these specialist height access companies and most offer free CPD courses on how to design and specify fall arrest/restraint/prevention equipment. Having previously worked in this industry for a number of years I would recommend that you seek some professional advice from a specialist - usually provided free of charge - you are then able to spec the style of system that they suggest - if you are happy with it that is and open this spec out to competitive tendering.
The benefit of having a system designed or suggested by another party is their professional indemnity insurance - after all they are the specialists.
In many cases the HSE work in conjunction with these companies for independant advice on system suitability etc. I have been involved in cases like this in the past.
If you have no luck there are several contacts that I still have that will offer a free consultation/design service.

Hope this helps

Dave
