Posted By srd I've just done a risk assessment for Christmas next year, and decided that it's just too risky to continue with, here's some of the risks I identified:
- Putting up the decorations at home and work (falls from heights)
- Using Christmas lights (electrocution and fires)
- Carol singers at the door (risk of being mugged)
- Trying to park to do shopping (road rage, stress)
- Gift shopping (crush injuries, bullying, violence, stress)
- Food shopping (as above, but driving home on the motorway from Tesco at 4am (it was too busy at 10pm) after a few hours shopping = risk of falling asleep at the wheel)
- Lack of sleep from being woken by young children in the early hours asking if Santa has been yet.
- Christmas dinner (bird flu, food poisoning from undercooked turkey, pesticides on vegetables, risk of fire from lighting brandy sauce, risk of strains from pulling crackers, risk of stress from having to explain jokes out of crackers)
- Having relatives around for tea and playing party games afterwards (risk of violence, bullying, stress, slips / trips / falls (especially as the evening progresses), strains from trying to dance as good as the younger ones)
- Receiving credit card bill in January (heightened risk of shock)
So next year I'm going to put in place control measures - I'm hiding away until it's all over and it's safe to come out.
Only joking, I love it really (apart from the credit card bit)
Stephen.

Posted By srd Oh, and by the way, my neighbours interpretation of 'suitable and sufficient', in relation to the quantity of his outdoor Christmas lighting, differs slightly from mine.

Posted By srd ... and as for:
- having to assemble a Millenium Starship Battle Command vehicle and associated daughter ships, including applying all those fiddly decals and pressing out the many figures,
- or working through the menus of a new mobile phone to get to the setting that you actually want to change,
- or having to sit through Ant & Dec, or The Hundred Greatest Whatever....

Posted By Sheila EJ Keogh and the risks from jogging around the park trying to keep up with young son on his new bike (mugging, heart attack, stitches), and the risk of frost bite from playing in snow, and the blooming almighty row from getting flashed by a speed camera on Christmas Day evening because was tired of driving half the family round London to various destinations and just wanted to get home.... But I'd do it all again next year - but without the speeding!!
