I wonder if anyone out there could assist me in answering the following question on Inspecting a mobile scaffold;
When does an inspection document need to be raised for mobile scaffolds?

Alan,

Mobile Towers along with any other temporary working platform need to be inspected at the following periods:-

1. After first being built and before use.
2. Daily before use.
3. Following any significant dismantling, adjustment (handrails etc)
4. Following any adverse weather conditions or impacts which may effect their integrity.
5. A period not exceeding 7 days.

Written reports are required for serials 1, 3, 4, & 5.

All inspections, builds/alterations must be carried out by competent operatives. The rcognised standard is that set by the Prefabricated Access Suppliers And Manufacturers Association (PASMA). Training providers are scattered all over the country cost for the standard course is usually in the region of £125 for a day course. See www.pasma.co.uk

I have an example inspection sheet if you require. Send me an email direct and I will forward it to you.

regards

Clive

Alan

From memory I believe if the platform is below 2 metres you do not need to record the (weekly) inspection.

Try the HMSO GS42 Tower Scaffolds

Inspection regimes for Tower Scaffolds are detailed in the recently amended
HSE Information Sheet - Consruction Information Sheet No 10 (Revision 4).
This includes requirements for towers below 2 metres and towers above
2 metres.
Specifically this suggests that any tower erected 2 metres or above must be
inspected and a report issued. The information sheet is available on the HSE
website.
