Hi Tim,

Good question, as I have had some involvement in the past with double glazing firms I can say that many are now actively working towards much more ergonomically sound handling equipment within the manufacturing processes with the use of hydraulic rigs and such like but unfortunately I haven't had a chance to review what maybe on the WWW or indeed maybe the GGF who may be of some assistance....certainly in the "field" when it comes to installations this is and will continue to be an issue, even with more than one employee to reduce the existing risk not just from manual handling.....take a shop window that has been broken by one of our many youngsters over a weekend and a company is hired to fix a new pane in......how might a rig achieve the reduction of manual handling in lifting from inside a van, to the pavement, to its final resting place, other than sheer manpower (sorry person power)......it may well be worth tring the GGF for their insight into this but from a manufacturing point of view there are machines out there that can hugely reduce the requirement to physically handle the large sheets......again a quick call to any typical double glazing firm will provide the names of manufacturers, which interestingly enough tend to be german companies......

Sorry not too much help but hopefully a little better than nothing..........

One of my colleagues has seen a tracked mobile crane that is able to handle glass. I'll try and find out who makes it.
