I dont know if this thread will stay on but here goes.
Before the festive holidays I reported an unsafe site.
Demo works where being carried out, size of site, small petrol station, on a main high street, 360's, dumers and muck away lorry on site, no welfare.
So you might say whats new? this site decided to vernutre out and sell christmas trees within the site, welcoming members of the general public, small children onto the site.
So me being me reported it. Got a phone call back two days later, we have spoken to the parties concerned, they will fence off the area! pardon, CDM, HASAWA, Man Regs and all that, still allowing members of the public onto the site. No further action was taken.
We wonder why people see safety as a joke, some of us don't.
Why?
Your thoughts are welcomed and I hope this one stays on.
Regards

Jonathan,

We care and take the time to report to provide for others safety and simply they don't have the resources or could not be bothered to turn up.

Example

Working for a London Borough in Corporate Safety.

Phone call received need safety advisors to attend a serious accident a college and I drive to the site, greeted by 2 Police officers who advise the incident and drive off.

We are left in control of the accident scene

18 year old fell 10 meters through a roof (no crawl boards, harnesses etc
Owner present when this happened according to the Police, who ran outside jumped in his car and drove off at speed.

Air ambulance called to remove IP....and it goes on, we quickly establish that the Police rang the wrong area and we rang the Authority, waited with the witnesses outside to preserve any evidence, 2 hours later a person rings back and said they can't come out and that they will ring me in a couple of days, the AS is contaminated and no evidence can be persevered ....NO OUTCOME.

That was 3 years ago and I still try to make a difference

All we can do is try and make people understand, it does make it hard though with all the pot shots at Safety mangers/advisers etc and some ridiculous prohibitions that reflect upon us all, that’s why we need to push the professionalism and counter stupid comments and throw aways each time the Media
Wants to be irresponsible I was glad that IOSH formally responded to the rubbish.

I do care

KEEP ON KEEPING ON(sorry for the long post)
