The company is proposing to locate a diesel storage tank inside a waste plastic storage area. The tank which has its own integral bund (which is cracked) will sit on wooden pallets inside a bund.

I have suggested (to reduce fire risk) that the tank be stored externally on a concrete block plinth inside a bund with a lockable discharge valve.
Does anyone know of any guidance I can quote to support my recommendation, as I am meeting some resistance from management

You may like to check out the requirements in the Oil Storage Regulations in order to support your assertions.

Trouble is the oil storage regulations don't support my proposal, but actually do the opposite. They wouldn't apply to oil stored in a building, and do not address the fire risk.
The requirements of the regulations would not need to be applied.

What you need to do is get a copy of the Environment Agency (SEPA in Scotland)Pollution Prevention Guidelines on this subject. See http://www.netregs.gov.u...77807/?version=1&lang=_e

You also want to consult with a Fire Advisor (LA or otherwise).

What exists will be shot to pieces by both; what you propose will be welcomed.

Good Luck
