Posted By Peter Stones I am considering subscribing to an online service such as Croners, ConsultGee etc but don't want to make an expensive mistake on an inferior service. Can anyone offer advice through personal experience
Thanks,
Peter

Look at your role and where you will need access to advice first. Carrying heavy books are a burden and CD is easier if you have a laptop. Web based information is good but do you always have access to the web where you are? There are so many good sources to access but it depend what you do and where you do it. I do have to say this forum is excellent for information too. If you want to chat about how I get round things give me a ring 07780.664597

They all have their merits and it really depends at what level you want information and user friendliness. The paper copies are quick and easy to use but have to updated regualrly and of course can be "borrowed" and so are unavailable.
We use Technical Index on line for the bulk of our reference material for research for training materials and consultancy and Croners (on line version)as a gerenal reference for most Health Safety and Environmental issues. They have a very useful forthcoming legislation section which is very up to date.
If you need just to have reference and not all the background for interpretation then I would opt for Croners or any of the other subscription services as all have their pros and cons so price might just be the decider.
Regards
Darby

Posted By AjSaunders We use Tech Indexes as well, but have also used both Croner & Gee.
In my opinion the Gee packages are far superior to Croner over actual content and usability

Posted By Zyggy Turek Peter,
We use Technical Indexes which we find to be an excellent resource. If you want to save some money just go for the core service & don't take the BS supplement as this is relatively expensive.
This obviously depends on how much you refer to British Standards.
