I had a serious accident at work and was lucky to escape with my life.
After my accident my company asked if I would be prepared to do a Presentation at Warwick University as to the Human Cost and Impact of my Accident. It had such a profound affect that the CEO of my company asked if I would be prepared to take my Presentation to all the Company sites. To date I have done over 100 Presentations which uses PowerPoint and some graphic Pictures of my injuries. The companies LTA, s reduced significantly and we managed to surpass 2 years without an accident.
I have decided to go it alone and jump into the Health and Safety field and take my Safety Presentation on the road. I know it will be of limited value as a stand alone 'road show' despite being a useful lesson on 'when it all goes horribly wrong' I therefore wish to use my experience in the engineering sector of some 25 years and would like to offer my services at carrying out safety Audits, Risk Assessments, writing safety and isolation procedures along with this presentation.
Some of the Presentations I have done have been tagged onto the Front end of Safety Courses to really hit home or re introducing a Safe system of work
I have done IOSH Managing Safely; I am booked onto a NEBOSH Gen Cert and following on with the new Nebosh Level 4 in the summer.
I am currently still in full time employment however I will be leaving and setting up a freelance business. The Market place I am looking at is predominately Heavy Industry, Manufacturing plants, and the petro-chemical industry to name a few but I am finding it difficult to get any contacts in these areas.
I would very grateful to receive any advice anyone may have on persuing my new career.
Regards
Frank

Good luck but remember you will not be taken seriously until you have a level 4 qualification.

Posted By AlB 3 or 4 years ago I cam accross a safety video. It was titled "Remember Charlie" or something similar. It was a video of a presentation - no powerpoint, no slides, nothing but this chap talking continuously for an hour about how he was lucky to be alive following a major accident at a petrochemical site in the USA where he suffered major 1st degree burns.
This presaentation was one of the most striking, hard hitting, enthralling and gripping talks I have ever come accross. I had a lump in my throat for an hour. I watched the presentation around 3 or 4 times (as we used it as a training tool for our employees as well). I don't think that any other piece of training hit home to the employees quite the same as that presentation.
Good luck to you Frank in your venture. And go for the Level 4 - it will add credability to you, especailly as you're going alone!

Posted By Descarte Ahh! yes that video, thanks for releaving me of the frustration I have been having for about a month. When at Conoco we had a site visit by charlie as some of us in the past had seen his video. Amazing, breath taking, thought provoking, upsetting and un-nerving but most highly recommended. He talked about how after the accident (in which he was horrible burnt) he has to be hung in a bath of acid like water to prevent scaring and daily had skin peeled of in excrutiating pain ina specialist hospital all day and night hearing the screams of the other people undergoing the same treatment 5 times a day, as best I can remember.
Has anyone got a copy of this vid? Would be much appreciated.

This video would be very useful for training I will be carrying out shortly, if anybody knows where to get a copy.
Also, good look Frank in your new venture! Be sure to put a posting on this site when you are up and running and I will keep an eye open for it.
Many Thanks,
