Hi All,

Anyone got any suggestions as to who has expertise in occupational health and occupational hygiene issues as regards nitrogen oxide emissions in tunnelling or mining?

What is it that you actually need here Peter?

Are you after CoSHH, Confined Spaces, Mines legislation or something else? How is the NOx produced - by diesel engines or some other source?

Drop me an email if you wish to discuss it further.

Hi Peter
In the days of British coal it used to be the Mines research establishment or scientific services

I would give what used to be RJB mining headquarters a call, I am sure the Safety Engineer there will be able to give you information on who they use. They may even offer the services themselves. I assume that NOx is coming from diesel locomotives FSV etc

Contact Harworth Colliery - Nottinghamshire

Ian

Hi Both,

There will be various diesel plant including tunnel boring machines.

Problems with air quality and recent tightening of standards as regards NO and NO2.

We are in discussions with various organisations including HSE, British Tunnelling Society and contractors, but are looking for an occupational health provider with specific relevant, recent experience. Ditto an occupational hygienist.

May possibly end up sourcing from outside U.K. since e.g. the Norwegians are ahead of us on this topic.

Try the IOM in Edinburgh: http://www.iom-world.org/consult/hygiene.php

Apart from IOM as already suggested, have you tried the Health & Safety Laboratory at Buxton?
