MARKING OF LIFTING EQUIPMENT (REG.7)
We have a bucket truck with the SWL of 250kgs marked on the bucket itself. This is fine but someone has suggested that the lifting arm should also be identified as well. Surely, if the bucket truck has it clearly identified then we are complying. Any comments will be most welcome.

Posted By Frank Hallett Sorry Charles - but unless the bucket is permanently fixed to the jib or lifting arm; AND the combination has been tested as a complete unit; you must have both tested.

Posted By Dave Anders Dont forget if the bucket and arm are seperate items then the weight of the bucket is calculated as part of its load

Posted By Charles Thanks for response thusfar. After doing the necessary weights/lifting tests etc and now comes the time to place the appropiate marking on the equipment, does the law say other than the outside of the bucket marking of the SWL you have to also mark the the beam as well?

Posted By Frank Hallett Charles - could you please let us know whether the bucket and jib are integral or seperate?

Posted By Charles Hi Frank
Let me try the explanation again ...
We have a truck with a hydraulic operated boom with a bucket attached at the end (of the boom). The boom is painted orangy-yellow and the bucket is white. The bucket has the inscription "SWL 250 Kgs" on its front ie facing the rear of the truck so to speak. You should notice this inscription when you approach from the rear. As far as I am aware this is acceptable when complying with legislation. A fairly new safety practioner suggested to management that we should also inscribe the "SWL 250 Kgs" on the boom as well. I totally disagree and thought it best to consult this forum which has between everyone a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Thanks
Charles

Forgive me for saying this - but you didn't actually provide the essential answer to the real question.
Has the bucket been tested WITH the boom/jib/arm as an integrated unit; or hass it been tested seperately?
It is entirely feasible that the bucket attachment has a SWL that is different to that of the boom to which it is attached. If they are tested, maintained and used as one unit, then the tested and accredited SWL will be clearly marked on the unit. If they have been, or can be, tested as individual items, the individual SWLs must be displayed.
