Posted By The toecap Hello all, If i am an employer and employ a safety advisor, how would i go about a check on their qualifications. Okay so they give me a certificate which looks authentic. But, what other checks can i take. With todays scanning and forgery systems it could be a fake. IOSH are telling me that they won't give the details of an individuals qualifications out. So what happens next. Any ideas.

Posted By Ciaran O'Connor Check with the examining body. Check with the place that they studied, University/Institute. They will at least give you the information as to when they achieved their qualifications. The lecturers at the place may indeed remember the individual and be able to comment further. I hope this is of help.

Posted By Robert K Lewis Real answer is that the membership department are there to confirm membership and the grade of membership and that is all that they are permitted legally to do.
If you are tracing other qualifications the old fashioned institutional checks and and probationary assessments ought to be able to give you the answer.

Posted By Hazel Harvey Bob is absolutely right we can only confirm a person's membership status to interested callers. What qualifications gave a person that membership level is not data that we can give out. We do check qualifications here though so if a person has membership then there is a good chance that their qualifications are genuine. Worth bearing in mind though is that a university or awarding body will require permission from the individual whose qualifications are being checked before they will divulge information. This is of course fairly simple if a person doesn't give permission then the implications are obvious. We have had this happen on occasions from applicants for membership! On occasions fraudulent claims to membership and qualifications are made, our membership department is the first check and we are happy to help. Hazel Harvey Director of Professional Affairs
