Posted By Dieter Kissling I have to conduct a study in 15 to 19 year old apprentices who during their apprenticeship have to work several weeks during night time. Does someone have experiences with youth shift workers. Did someone conduct a study on this topic? Regards Dieter Kissling

Posted By Frank Hallett Hi Dieter
Why do you need to do this study?
Is it for a dissertation, an in-house project, EU led research or something else?

Posted By Dieter Kissling Hi Frank it is an in house study for a company who would have to stop apprenticeship, if night shift work would be forbidden for young people under 18. The company would stop to ecucate more than 100 places for apprentees. We will look for psychological, physical and social symptoms of these young people working night shift in comparison to a group of dayworking apprentices. Furthermore we will look for protecting measures to have less symptoms during night shift. Regards Dieter

Posted By Frank Hallett Hi Dieter That was a rapid response!! You don't identify which part of the world you're considering, but I am assuming that it is within the EU. As a precursor to your study, I suggest that first, you should go to:- http://europa.eu.int/eur-lex/en/repert/index.htm and look for the Directive on Protection of Young People at Work - 94/33/EEC and check the Table of Hazards etc. Second; check out your National implementation of this and any possible additional restrictions placed by the National legislation. Then, you will need to commence drawing up the Study Schedule. This will identify the parameters to be considered, the means of measuring, any KPI's, and etc. There may even be scope for some form of EU funding on this. Good luck and if you need anything further, please feel able to contact me. Frank Hallett CFIOSH

Posted By Dieter Kissling Dear Frank thank you for your indications. As I'm working in Switzerland EU fundings are not possible. The study will be paid by the company I will do it for. As it is the largest employer in Switzerland money should not be a problem. Thanks again Dieter
