I'm just taking a "straw poll" here folks; so be kind.
How many of those IOSH members [of any grade] take the time to go to the "Membership Issues" or the "Internal Business" forums.
I'm not after why, just whether you do. Although I would be interested in "Why you don't".
Many thanks for your time.

It's a good point. I rarely go to the members' forum, largely because it is inclined towards membership issues.
ps Beware, last time I tried to conduct a 'straw pole' it was removed on the grounds you are not allowed to post a 'questionnaire'.
Regards
Ray

I do not yet.
Why?
Did not really think to look as am just studying the subect and am usually too busy. Now that you mention it, I have just popped in to the specialist group thread and found some great stuff.
Thanks for the pointer
Jason (going back to forums to snoop around)

Excellent reminder Frank and I will in future. Reason for not doing this regularly - no excuse really but the public ones are easier to get at and the IOSH webpages take time even on broadband to scroll through which if time is limited prevents digging into other sections

Hi
Sometimes I do, but the chat forum is on my favorites... so I just have a quick look. Maybe I should change my favorites..

I have been a very infrequent visitor to the members forums. Compared to this discussion board, they are not used anywhere near as much, nor as often.
Plus, I do like to marvel at some of the discussions that take place here....

I don’t always log on when I visit the public forums, therefore the membership forum does not come up on the list.
When I do log in, the links to the member’s area do not appear on the right hand side under “hot topics” with the other links. Using the links on the left hand side is, I feel, less user friendly and i do not often find my way there.

Hi Anthony
What "Operating System" are you using? It always works fine for me.
Good to se that some have been prompted to visit the "inner sanctum"; no you don't need a special handshake, just an IOSH memebr ID.

Frank,
I am on XP, however, even when logged on I only get the three forums in the shaded area under "hot topics".
The mebership forums are not easy to find.

Anthony - you need to talk to an IT techie, something isn't right on your computer.

Going back to basics, have you registered with IOSH for access to the members area?
If you have and are signing in, you then may need to click "My Forums" in the grey box (top right) headed 'section links'.
If still no luck have a chat with Neal Clark at IOSH.

Frank/Bill,
Thanks for your replies.
I have registered on all the forums, which I can access by clicking on the "My forums" The point I am trying to make is that even when logged on the membership forum does not appear in the "hot topics" on the right hand side. I don’t know about the other users, but I tend to use the hot topics as a reference point for the three forums because it is always in view no mater what I am looking at. If the membership forum appeared in there with the latest threads I would visit more. As is now, for me, to get to the member forum it takes a bit more navigating than just clicking on the hot topic list. Does the membership forum appear in the hot topic box for anybody else, or is it just me?

'Hot Topics' doesn't change; you need to go in through 'My Forums'.

I look at the "members forums" at least twice a day, but I guess that my role as a moderator would mean that I need to look. I must admit it is a shame that they are not very well used, and only a few IOSH members have registered to use them. Perhaps if more people registered for them, and they are used more they would be more popular.
Martin.

I refer to them for any relevant information. Having read comments on the above subject and your current posting re visits to sites, perhaps the web administrator could look at putting a hits counter on each forum which would then give an indication of usage over a period of time.

Thanks Martin B for your observation.
It's a strange anomaly that I had to put this on the publicly accessible Chat Forum rather than where it should be - the Members Issues Forum - where no-one would see it.
I believe that one or two other threads would have been better placed there, and one did start there but translated to the Chat Forum to expand accessibility. Says it all really.
Thanks to those who have responded; and I hope that more have at least taken a look.

Hi there Toecap; interesting response.
Are you an IOSH Member?
Given the way you worded your response, are we acting as unpaid and unrecognised consultants for you?

I do look occasionally. Usually when I have gone through the first page of the chat forum and still have time/enthusiasm left.
Could we not have them included under "hot topics" ?
Though that may take too much page space.
Tell you what - get rid of the left hand column. Keep all of that stuff for the home page.
