Posted By Pierre de Carteret Following a hip replacement, where one of their legs is now slightly shorter than the other, the worker has requested adapted safety boots. Does anybody have any experience with adapting safety footwear through a cobbler rather than paying £400 plus getting it direct from a manufacturer? Don't have an issue paying that amount if it's the only way of getting the right equipment - but (as you can imagine) I would be a bit peeved if I found out later I could have got it done for £40 (a go) locally! Already excluded the option of gluing a block of wood to their soles - just in case that sprang to mind!!

Posted By Ron Hunter How short is shorter? In some instances a booster insole is sufficient.Minimal cost.

Posted By Pierre de Carteret Unfortuanately the variation is nearly 2" so insoles are not enough. To make it worse we use 2 different types of boots for the operation so in a (typical) year we're looking at at least two pairs...

Posted By Lynne Ratcliffe http://www.jobcentreplus...bledPeople/AccesstoWork/ Try this link and contact your local job centre plus advisor. Grants are avaialable to keep disabled employees in work under circumstances where special equipment or adaptations are required to enable them to continue in work. You should be able to get assistance with the making of boots as i do not believe that 2" could be made up safely - I certainly wouldn't want to stand and walk on a 'cobbled' job (pun intentional). As this 2" difference is not going to improve it is covered under DDA so look there for support also. Hope this helps
