Can someone please advise me whether there are any issues to be taken into account when using phones (landlines/cordless and mobiles) to contact the Gas Emergency Service (National Grid) in the event of a suspected gas leak.

I have reviewed the information on their website regarding phoning them in an emergency, but there is no specific advice as to whether the actual use of phones could be a problem under certain circumstances.

Thanks in advance for any information and advice that you can offer.

Hi Mike

It's not just phones - it's ALL electrical and electronic equipment that may cause a spark within a gas cloud that is within the flammability range.

A mobile used at a sensible distance is far less likely to initiate an explosion.

If you need more, this is an area that I routinely provide services in, just click on the name for the email.
