Posted By John Doe Morning all, I'm currently involved in a project connected to bathrooms in a healthcare setting. The main tasks are to get current floorcoverings compliant with current standards and to get some effective policy drawn up. I'm interested in your experiences in grappling with the 'floor-so-rough-you-need-shoes-to-walk-on-it':'this-is-the-best-that-can-be-done-if-barefeet-are-the-norm' dilemmna. I'm beginning to think there's a Catch 22 waiting in view of the need to satisfy the barefooted (the patient) and the ...erm...footed (the staff). Can the two be satisfied? Any particularly helpful contractors/experts you've come across? On the policy side, I'm drawing from these: -INDG225 'Preventing slips and trips at work' -The Assessment of pedestrian slip risk (HSE Approach) -HSIS2 'Slips and trips in the health services' -Slips and trips: The importance of floor cleaning -FIS22 'Preventing slips in the food and drink industries..' -CAIS6 'Preventing slips and trips in kitchens...' Any more of these....fascinating things you can recommend? Thanks in advance

Posted By David Halicki MBE CMIOSH I would suggest you contact Mark Thomas at the HSE's Slips & Trips Priority Team, who I am sure will be most helpful. We in IOSH NW HC SG,have held a number of HSE Slips & Falls Roadshows, and we will be holding another one in May. There are many 'old hands' in our group but all those who attended the roadshows, learned something new by attending. Marks email address is:- Mark.Thomas@hse.gsi.gov.uk Regards David Halicki MBE CMIOSH 14866 Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner Secretary IOSH NW HC SG Mobile 07796 391249 Home 01625 877780
