Posted By Simon Long Hi, I am trying to find out if there is any definitive information regarding health hazards from static electricity discharge. Does anyone know of any published tables that define the risks associated with discharge levels? I am concerned with the actual medical issues rather than the effect of letting go of the object or reacting quickly to the shock. Thanks for any help Regards Simon

Posted By J Knight Hi Simon, My mate showed me a DVD of Braniacs (I don't have kids so have never seen this) in which it was demonstrated that wearing nylon clothes at petrol stations is much more dangerous than using a mobile phone, but aside from the obvious stuff covered by DSEAR etc I don't know of any actual health risks, John

Posted By Frank Hallett Hi Simon Having noted your email address; may I suggest that the principle areas that you may wish to consider should include the levels of static electricity likely to be generated and it's possible effects upon any implants that those directly exposed may have. I'm not sure of the amount of publicly accessible research, nor where it may be. Frank Hallett

Posted By Jane Blunt Dear Simon You don't say what your probable source of static electricity is. The generic standard for electrical equipment, BS EN 60204-1, has something to say about it in section 6.2.3, where it specifies a maximum time for the potential to die away to 60V or less, unless the charge stored is less than 60 microCoulombs. This implies that there is an energy threshold for damage, but I do not know where further details may be obtained. Regards Jane

Posted By johnwaterson2773 I get whacked a lot of the time by static electricity, and it feels like my arm is paralysed. Nothing is earthed so we think that is the major problem, which throws my theory right out of the window - my electric personality.
