H & S liabilities for charity volunteer runners

We are asking for employee volunteers to partake in a charity 10K run throughout the night. Has anyone else been involved in this sort of enterprise where employees run for the Company charity in their own time? They will be running on a cinder track under spotlight & while I don't forsee any significant problems there may be an issue concerning H & S capability under an individuals health to consider. Any advice ?

My understanding is that since it appears that the employees are to be 'representing' the company, an injury resulting from the activity would probably be regarded as an industrial injury. I believe there are Industrial Tribunal cases where police personnel have claimed Ind. Inj. for injuries sustained whilst playing for police football teams. This would therefore have implications regarding the payment of ind. inj. pay or sick pay. Hope this helps.
