Posted By Baskaran Kumarasamy Hi all, 1. Is there any regulation says that Oxy acetelene cutters used in the workshop has to be replaced every year. I was told by the manufacturer of the same but i wonder why should it be changed every year when it is in a good working order. 2. Also Can anyone suggest a course for the people who sign in the permit to work system to authorize to do the work. Though they have practical experience over the workplace, is there any course which exclusively deals with Permit to work systems? Many thanks in advance. Regards, Baskey

Posted By Mark Mace i would assume that the torch part of the equipment is much like the ones we use (8 hours nearly continous use all year round and outside), there are seals inside the gun that require replacing periodically dependent upon use and conditions of use, in our experience its cheaper to replace the gun than try to find someone competent to service it. Seals can go brittle dependent upon manufacturers prefered type, these can then brake up allowing escapes of either the accetalyne or the oxygen, and believe me you donot want this to happen. If you use these for only small amounts of work it might be worth looking in to hiring them as and when required, otherwise try contacting BOC Gases as they have lots of training programmes, videos etc. Regards M A M
