Hello,
I've been banging my head against the wall all day trying to create a database with MS Access but it just is'nt happening for me. All I want it for is so that I can keep Accident, Near Miss and Training Data in the one place so it is easy to retrieve. I would appreciate it very much if someone has one that they would like to share or point in the direction of a template I may use. I have done a Google on it but turned up nothing.

The poster gave us a copy of his excel programme. I'll try to dig it out for you.

Alternatively you could do what I did and employed the services of an Access Database programmer to tailor one to your specification. A couple of days work and it has proved invaluable for 5 years now.

I use Access extensively for recording and manipulating data but I have to say that its not particularly intuitive and you do need some training to exploit all of its features.
Most universities run courses for their own staff and it may be worth speaking to your local one to see if they, for a fee, would let you attend one of theirs.
Possibly it would be cheaper than employing someone and if you need to tweak the program in the future you would be able to rather than calling someone back.

Access is very tricky to use.
Suggest you do it with a simple spreadsheet(s) or pay to get a database made for you. Look in yellow pages for companies offering IT training - they will probably help. Also, there are off the peg databases for accident records etc available

You may prefer to learn to use Excel as a database if your needs are simple, and if you want to do graphs. Although Access data can be exported to Excel, I found the learning curve too steep. Access is a complex relational database, ideal for linking records to each other for sales etc. Focus on what you want to get out of your database, rather than what you can put into it.

I have an accident incident excel spreadsheet which you input all data etc and it updates. I got this from someone off this forum. I have looked for the thread but cant find it now. Anyone want a copy just email me.
