Hi
Within our company we are experiencing a number of hand and finger entrapments with trailer doors on our waste vehicles.
Although I have explained to line managers and supervisors on the obvious key safety points does anyone of of any specific guidlelines that I could show them so they have something to refer to when inducting new members of staff.
Many thanks

When you say waste vehicles, do you mean biffa or cleansing type lorries or do you mean normal run of the mill trailers??

Sorry
Should have been more specific - I think my mind was still in 'Re Jeremey Clarkson' mode.
The trailers that our company own are the 'walking floor trailers'.
The incidents mainly ocur when they are over the tonnage weight and the back doors have to be opened to discard some of the waste to bring them back to our required tonnage weight. Then once the waste has been discarded, the doors are then closed and sometimes force has to be used bearing in mind the load thats being carried.
Hands are often used to either dislodge waste that is stopping closure or to remove rubbish that is hanging out of the bottom of the trailer.

Hi Rochelle,
I'm going to assume the doors are similar to those used on large numbers of HGVs, half width, full height doors locked and sealed by 1/4 turn rod and lock handle.
If so, possibly you could devise a small handtool to slide along the door edges to remove trapped waste .
hope this is helpful

We have suggested this but as we transfer a lot of the rubbish to landfill on a 44 tonnage load and this being the maximum allowance on an English road it comes down to money.
Again if I could quote legislation/ACOPS etc at Managers this might help me in putting together a short briefing together with compensation claims to try and reduce this happening.
