We have just purchased some new premises, had the asbestos survey done and ACM's identified. I was just about to order some warning signs when I came across two different styles.
One is the conventional yellow triangle / exclamation mark with 'Warning Asbestos' written on it. The other is a red colored bacground with a big 'a' at the top (found on Seton website)saying warning, contains asbestos.
Which one is the correct one to use or are they both OK.

Both are acceptable, depends on what you are using them for and the room you have.
Have a look at http://www.safetysignage.co.uk/. Usually cheaper than most others.

They are needed to go into a 40,000 sq ft warehouse. The storm pipes that run down the internal walls to about 10ft feet off the ground (and then disappear onto the external wall)are ACM's

Hi Debbie, I have just read this so a bit late.
I would have thought that the company who were the "duty holder" for the premises should have carried out this survey before you moved in.They then should have provided this info to you before moving in.

In you create an management action plan - you could identify the ACM's with a red dot.

Salus is right, however, a lot of Duty Holders do not realise they are the duty holder, and a lot also think that it is an unnecessary waste of money to carry out a survey.
I regularly hand survey reports from third parties over to new duty holders, but I also cover my back by disclaiming the accuracy of the file and recommending a new survey is carried out. Asbestos Management files are notoriously inaccurate and dated.

Both signs are not OK. The correct sign is the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark with "warning asbestos" as per the Safety Signs and Signals Regulations 1996. The other sign is only for the supply of products and the marking of waste as per the Control of Asbestos At Work Regulations 2002.

The sign with the "a" in its is stated in MDHS100, so why is not OK to use?
Surely if the HSE are telling us to use it...

where ACM are left in place an option could be to colour code, the decision will depend on the managment system in place.
Use of labelling may not be necessary if using permits to work.
Taken from extract of HSG227 - comprehensive guide to managing asbestos.
Overall you can decide what you want to do, you should ensure that it is effective and managed and when appropriate audited.
