Posted By hse.leon Is there anyone who could help me on a risk assessment for Helicopter (Air Ambulance)landing pad for a hospital .where the proposed landing pad should work with the staff accomadations located on the same side ,the issues will be proximity from residential buildings ,noise and exhaust fumes as well as a minimum safety radius. Thanks in advance.

Posted By Keith E This issue has come up before - check the Civil Aviation Authority website etc for guidance regarding helicopter landing sites away from recognised airfields etc. You will only get limited guidance from the HSE etc about aircraft handling/operations, as its outside their remit. About the only guidance I have seen from HSE is to do with baggage handling and a document about explosion risks when refuelling aircraft.

Posted By John Allen You need to contact the Civil Aviation Authority (try their website in the first instance). They are responsible for licensing all heliports and helipads in the UK. Their website has a link to the officer responsible. I think you will find they have a document called CAP(number) which will give the necessary standards for helipads. The offshore one is CAP437 but I would suspect there will be an onshore equivalent. There is also a body called the British Helicopters Approvals Board (BHAB). This is staffed by senior helicopter pilots. As well as carrying out routine inspections of helipads they can advise on safe design and operation.
