Posted By Ron Impey Unfortunately a vaccination against Weil's Diease is not a realistic option unless one is prepared from a local strain. You need to think about Hepatitis A immunisation. Also check that the workers have had the Polio jab, and their tetanus protection is up-to-date.

Posted By garyh If the river is clean and unpolluted eg mountain stream or similar you probably won't have a problem with water born pathogens. However, if it takes sewage effluent or septic tank run off then they may be present. HSE website has some good advice on sewage workers and the like. In essence you immunise against Hepatitus and Tetanus. The employees also have to be health assessed, report symptoms and exercise basic hygiene.

Posted By Frank Hallett You should not rely on vaccinations; really good information on relevant potential healthexposures combined with a thoroughly indoctrinated and effectively supervised hygiene procedure is your best bet. You should also consider whether it will need any supportive health monitoring or health surveillance; and if so - what. Frank Hallett

Posted By Frank Hallett Hi Chris I'm not so ambitious as to allege that I can do the ultimate in alchemy;'tho as an ex-FS SCBA & Fire Survival Instructor I can walk on water and through walls when required! All I do is seek to impress upon those exposed to the hazards that they have as much to do with the success of the process as anyone else - and then I try to get the client to ensure a suitably robust supervisory process to cater for the "it won't happen to me" approach.
