Testing, Inspection, Examinations - frequency

I'm compiling a list of work equipment and items that requie inspections, examinations and testing. This includes legislatively or code of practice inspections, testing and examinations of items such as lifting equipment, pressure vessels etc etc and not the day to day inspection of things.
I am short of time (as is the norm in our profession) but I need to have as complete a list as possible, along with the duration between tests, inspections or examinations. I have quite a few (obviously all the common ones) but also some industry specific items such as exploders used in the explosives industry.
Due to the short time available, any input would be great. Please note - include as much as you can, including the obvious such as lifting equipment etc etc, as writing a full list often jogs your memory for the not so obvious items as well.
Once I have collated all of the information I will gladly post the information on this forum for all to see and use.
Regards,
AlB

My immediate reaction is "test everything once a year, and record it, more often if you have significant worries"
Can anyone do better ?

I agree and would add that anything involved in lifting people or with people working below equipment e.g. vehicle tables should be inspected at least six monthly

Thanks for the response, but it's a bit general. Testing everything once a year is not sufficient in a lot of cases, as there is a lot of grey areas. You wouldn't test a mobile crane every year when 48 months would suffice, and you wouldn't test a forklift once a year if you attach a manrider basket to it, and you would test an exploder every 6 months.
I'm looking for examples with a legislative or code of practice or guidance requirement on testing frequency. I need to compile a comprehensive list (as this will serve as a general guideline for a large Plc). I want to make sure that i don't miss anything out, but now that I've stated to look into it I have realised that I am lacking some knowledge as to actual recommended testing frequencies.
Any information is always welcome!
Thanks/

I'm not sure I can add anything beyond the obvious stuff but I just wanted to say What a brilliant idea! Can't wait to see the finished article.

Thanks John.
It's such a huge area that it's difficult to keep track.
And if you have any ideas, no matter how obvious they are, please let me know, as I want to make sure that I don't miss out anything. I want to get the draft up and running in the next week, but I can see me researching the full scope for the next 2 to 3 weeks. So keep sending ideas - no matter how obvious

How about contacting your insurance company who does your current testing and asking them for a definitive list/help with your project. If they think they will get a few extra bob they will do pretty much anything for you!

Good idea Helen.
Sometimes the simplest of answers passes by without being taken.
But don't hold back, I'm going to chase this one through the whole nine yards!

I have a chart that was produced by Plant Safety some years ago that may be of assistance - see your e-mail.
The letter refers to the relevant legislation, the number is an indication of frequency in months.
Previous advice to contact your statutory inspection provider is probably as good a source as anywhere else.

Sorry, chart is too big to e-mail and if compressed further becomes unreadable.

I have a free booklet entitled Engineering Inspection Guide by Royal & Sunalliance that is a useful check, it covers lifting, pressure systems, electrical, power presses, LEV and other work equipment. I think it was mentioned in a fairly recent SHP. Tel. 0845 074 0704 will probably get you a free copy.

Stephen, following Helen's posting I telephoned our insurers (Royal & Sun Alliance) and indeed they informed me of the booklet that they have. I have a number of copies in the post as we speak!
Many thanks to all.
As always, the answer is easy and readily available - when you know where to look!
